Steinhatchee Florida is located in the "Big Bend" of Florida at the mouth of the Steinhatchee River, where the river flows into the Gulf of Mexico. It has always been a popular spot on the map for fishermen and hunters alike. Fall and winter usually provide great fishing in the Steinhatchee River and on the grass flats for speckled trout and redfish. Other species are taken as well. Dog hunting for deer and hogs it a very popular outdoor sport here during hunting season with fox hunting being very popular during other times of the year. There are many still hunt areas here as well and several hunting clubs. Of course, the name Steinhatchee is synonymous with Scalloping.
Hagan's Cove, Steinhatchee Falls, Keaton Beach, and Dallas Creek Landing all bring foward opportunities for outdoor recreation, and the upper river is great for rafting and canoeing.
